Description

The American Marine Special Simplex boom is a flexible floatation type boom which stores compactly and can be deployed easily from either a barge, boat, trailer or dock. The boom has foam floatation, oil and debris type barrier and is used primarily in harbors and/or other protected waters. The Simplex boom contains oil by providing a barrier in shoreline areas and has an overall width of 22 inches: a freeboard of 8 inches and a draft of 12 inches.

Handling/Operation

This light weight boom was selected by MSRC for deployment from storage trailers and/or containers by either VOSS vessels or from beach locations. The weight of the boom allows it to be stowed manually with a maximum of (2) personnel. The relatively compact size of the storage containers makes for easy transport by truck, trailer, air or boat.

The strength and flexibility of the Simplex boom gives it the ability to follow wave contours making it an ideal boom to use in an exposed shoreline environment, harbor and/or other protected water. The boom can be towed at speeds up to 10 knots without twisting or damage and is also compatible with other types of boom such as Slickbar and Intertidal boom which utilize ASTM connector.
